In May 2019, the Museum Lab announced an open competition for all Cyprus museums and cultural sites interested in incorporating interactive media and emerging technologies in their premises. The competition was addressed to museums which were interested in a collaboration aiming to incorporate emerging technologies that would help them meet the needs of the current digital era and become more visible and attractive. The Open Call was presented to interested museums in an open press conference which took place on Friday, May 24th 2019, at CYENS offices. Applications were accepted from May until October 2019. A total of 23 proposals from 19 museums were received.
The competition run in three phases of evaluation:
Phase One: All proposals went through a preliminary evaluation by CYENS’s scientific committee. Five proposals were shortlisted to the next phase for a more thorough evaluation.
Phase Two: The scientific committee had meetings with all shortlisted candidates in order to help them elaborate and finalize their proposal and draft an indicative budget.
Phase Three: The final proposals were presented to a second committee of CYENS experts that selected the winning proposal.
The winning proposal will be funded and developed by CYENS with the help of the winning museum.
The winner of the competition was the Fairytale Museum in Nicosia and the developed exhibition will be launched at the end of 2021.
